This narrow waterway in the northwestern part of the Gulf of Alaska separates the Chugach Mountains from the Kenai Peninsula. Characterized by tides up to 40 feet high, Turnagain Arm has the second largest tides in North America after the Bay of Fundy. The Seward Highway, which connects Anchorage to Seward, follows the shore and connects with the ports of the Kenai.
