"Trinity" was the code name for the first detonation of a nuclear device. It was conducted by the USA Army on July 16, 1945, as part of the Manhattan Project of the Los Alamos Laboratory. The test occurred in the Jornada del Muerto desert about 35 miles southeast of Socorro, NM, which today is part of the White Sands Missile Range. The test of an implosion-design plutonium device was successful and led to its detonation over Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945.
