Named for bands of black around the neck, males have a blue-green body while females have a light brown head and body. At maturity they grow up to 14 inches in length. The collared lizards prefers rocky habitats in desert scrub, pinyon-juniper woodlands and desert grasslands. They are very fast, at catching insects and other lizards to eat, including their own species. The collard Lizard is the state reptile of Oklahoma.
