Constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression, this concrete gravity-arch dam forms Lake Mead, the largest reservoir by volume in the United States. Construction of the massive concrete structure, 726 feet tall, resulted in the loss of over one hundred lives. Traffic across the dam was diverted to the O'Callaghan Bridge on Interstate 11 in 2010. This concrete and steel composite arch bridge in 890 feet above the Colorado River, the second-highest bridge in the US.
